COVID-19: Winter Activities

Our summer season has now ended and we have now opened the Clubhouse for Short Mat, which is open to both playing and social members. However, it is not 'business as usual' and the coronavirus restrictions mean that we must adapt how we manage the Clubhouse and play the game. The health and wellbeing of our members is of utmost importance and enabling indoor activities during the pandemic is challenging. The Management Committee has developed Club guidance to try to provide as safe an environment as possible but is is not possible to eliminate all risk. Please see our Members pages.

Join your friendly local club

  • All ages and abilities welcome
  • Free taster sessions plus coaching
  • Bowls available for loan
  • Reduced membership fee for new players

The object of the Club is to provide facilities for, and promote participation of, the whole community in the sport of bowls.

River Bowling Club was founded in 1923 and is affiliated to Bowls England & Kent County Bowling Association (KCBA).

We are a small mixed club playing both competitive and friendly games, with membership ranging from teenagers to great-grandparents. Our Green is located in the recreation ground at the heart of the village and we enjoy excellent facilities in our Clubhouse, which was rebuilt in 1996 following a fire. The Club is run by a voluntary management committee and we have recently taken over responsibility for the Clubhouse and the Green from the Parish Council.

The outdoor season starts in April and runs through to September each year. During the winter months the Club has a “short mat”, which allows play to continue in the Clubhouse. We also have an active social membership that holds regular events during the year.

New Members Welcome

The game of Bowls can be played by all ages, abilities and gender, making it the perfect sport for all members of your family.

We welcome bowlers of all levels and offer free coaching to new players. We also offer Associate (social) Membership to the non-playing partners or friends of members.
